Frequently Asked Questions

If your question isn’t here, simply send us a message using the contact form below or give us a call. We are always happy to help.

  • What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a natural approach to health and well-being. It is based on the knowledge that your entire body is controlled by your nervous system. Your brain is continually sending instructions down your spinal cord and out through your nerves, directing every organ and tissue of your body. Signals are also sent back to the brain so it is aware of what is happening in and around your body. Any disruption to the nerve system (i.e. the body's communication network) can be detrimental to the way we function and feel. Chiropractic treatment aims to locate any dysfunctional spinal segments which may be impacting your nerve system and adjust these segments so your body can function how it was designed to and so you can feel your best!
  • What is a Subluxation?
A vertebral subluxation is a segment of the spine which is no longer moving properly which can interfere with the messages sent through the nerve system between the brain and the body. The delicate nerves exiting the spine can be affected by malposition or improper movement of the vertebrae. Most subluxations can exist without obvious pain or discomfort, but will affect the function of the nerve system.
  • How do I know if I have a Subluxation?
Subluxations can present as postural imbalances, pain, tension etc. or may not cause any obvious symptoms. Even in the absence of pain, subluxations still affect the function of your nerve system. The best way to know if you have one is to get your spine checked by a Chiropractor.
  • Benefits of receiving chiropractic care?
Chiropractic care has been shown to benefit the whole body. Things you may experience with regular chiropractic care include: Higher energy levels Improved range of motion Improvements in strength Improvements in posture Better emotional regulation & ability to manage daily stress Decreased muscle tension and an enhanced sense of calm Easier concentration & more productivity Deeper and more restful sleep Better performance in sport and recreational activities May help to slow degeneration in the spine from repetitive activities.
  • Is Chiropractic care during Pregnancy Safe?
Chiropractic care during pregnancy is considered extremely safe. We believe chiropractic care before, during, and after pregnancy is an excellent way to support your body as it adapts through this period of changing requirements. By maintaining proper pelvis and spinal alignment and function with chiropractic care, research has shown a 24% reduction in labour time for first-time mothers, and 39% reduction for experienced mothers. Another study found that patients who incorporated chiropractic adjustments during their pregnancy had a 50% decrease in the need for painkillers during delivery. More information can be found here!
  • Is Chiropractic care for Children important?
Chiropractic care for children and teens involves the use of gentle chiropractic adjustments. Because the nervous system controls every function in the body, it’s essential for children to get off to an excellent start in life by maximising that function. More information can be found here!
  • What causes Subluxations?
Subluxations are caused by stressors that your body cannot adapt to. These stressors usually fall into the following categories: 1. Physical stress (injuries, falls, lifting, repetitive activities, posture etc.) 2. Chemical stress (alcohol, toxins, additives and chemicals in food, tobacco smoke, pollutants) 3. Emotional stress (Conflict, arguments, personal traumas, work pressure, grief etc.) If the stressors are more than your body can deal with, these are then "stored" and may present as subluxations.
  • Who can receive chiropractic care?
Anyone with a spine and a nerve system! We treat people of all ages and backgrounds and we have a variety of chiropractic techniques we can choose to use based on your age, size, and condition.
  • How many adjustments will I need?
The number of visits varies with each person and their individual health goals. If you have never had chiropractic care before, your visit frequency will be higher than someone who has been under regular care. Initial frequent visits allow you to experience the most benefit. The focus of the initial phase of care is to stabilize and improve the function of your spine and nervous system as quickly as possible. As your spine stabilizes with time, we can reduce the visit frequency. A range of tests are performed at your initial consultation. The information from these tests, your health history, and x-ray findings (if required) helps determine the level of care required for you to get the best results.
  • How long until I feel better?
Many factors can affect the healing process. These include your age, degree of damage to the spine, any injuries you've had, your daily activities, sleep, nutrition etc. Some people notice changes almost immediately, and others notice change more gradually over weeks, months or even years, especially in chronic cases. Many patients choose to have regular chiropractic checks, thus maintaining the health of their spine and nervous system. For some a “check-up” is once a week for others once a month.
  • Is my chiropractor qualified?
Chiropractors have trained for a minimum of 5 years, and must be registered with the New Zealand Chiropractic Board to practice in New Zealand. Chiropractors also partake in a yearly continued education program, which helps to ensure the public gets their best service.
